Lagoon!

Jeff's brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Katie (and their cute boys), came to visit last Friday (from their home in Boston), so we decided to take a trip to Lagoon together! Grandma Merilee, Arika, Derek and Nikki (and their kids) came too. We had a blast! It happened to be our Stake Lagoon Day, so it was free to just walk in and not go on rides. Since we had all the kiddos, the adults got free "walk-in" passes and we only got ride passes for the little ones.

It was Kayley's first time riding rides of any sort, so we were interested to see how she'd like it. Turns out we didn't need to worry; she loved it!

The classic boats. Jeff has memories of riding these boats with his cousins when he was little. It's fun for Kayley to be able to share the same memories.
 Kayley loves to drive. Every time we pull into the driveway she yells, "drive! drive!" Having a car of her own was a dream come true! It was her favorite part of the day

Chris and Jack couldn't figure out how to make their helicopter go up, so they were stuck at the bottom. On the other hand ...
... Kayley and Avrie couldn't get their chopper to go down, so they hung out up top!
 
 When asked what animal she wanted to ride, she immediately replied, "Jumbo Elephant!"
 Riding the "horsey buggy" (she calls all horses that). We're not sure if the horse is imitating Kayley, or the other way around ...
 Before we left, she had to take one more spin on the cars (it was a solo excursion this time, as the other cousins were checking out the bumper cars).

The evening ended with a wild and wet run through the splash pad! At first, she was a little hesitant to jump in, but this ended up being her other favorite part of the day.
 Chris wasn't hesitant at all, he rushed right in and helped Kayley get used to the water :)
It was so fun to spend time with family. Kayley loves her cousins! It was also really neat to see the kids' faces light up as they got to run around and play at Lagoon. We were all very tired when we got home, but it was the good kind of tired that means you've come to the end of a very fun day.

    This day was a highlight in my life. Seeing this generation experience Lagoon for the first time was so sweet for me. The splashpad ending was really fun. Without months of planning I can't believe it came together.

Lana is 1!

Our little Lana Faith turned 1 on June 11th. We celebrated in two waves. The first was with rice krispy treats and a few gifts on the actual day. The second was with cake, ice cream, and grandpas and grandmas that weekend. Both were very fun and made her first birthday a special one. Here are some pictures of our sweet girl and her birthday fun. June 11th: Look mom, no hands! The rice krispy treats were made with strawberry marshmallows. Lana  loved them. She kept saying "mmm" and signing "more, more!" She got a sweet doll from Uncle Reese and Aunt Tammy, and a water table from mom and dad!  The weekend bash: Time to open presents! We'll start with a neat toy boat from Aunt Lexie! Hooray for new books! and some cute clothes from the Coopers And a fun puzzle and nice new outfit from Grandpa and Grandma Averett Kayley was more than happy to help show Lana how to make the best use of her gifts :) Thanks everyone! ...

Pumpkin Carving 2012

Halloween is long over; Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's have all come and gone. Yes, it's a little random to be posting about pumpkins in January, but somehow we missed posting our annual pumpkin carvings  when we did our Halloween post. Better late then never, so here you go :) Katie's pumpkin:  Belle Silhouette Jeff's pumpkin: Rapunzel (Tangled)  Since Jeff's pattern was a little more complex this year, we used transfer paper to copy the design to our pumpkins instead of poking holes We love how they turned out! The Coopers came down to join us again this year. Charity and Christian both did pumpkins. In honor of this year's school play, Charity did Les Mis (We don't have a finished picture because she had to take it home and finish it, but it turned out awesome! Happy Halloween!

We had a really fun Halloween this year. Kayley was Winnie-the-Pooh and Lana was Piglet. Jeff's work had a family trick-or-treat at the office the Friday before Halloween. Everyone's kids got to dress up and walk around to all the offices/cubicles and get candy. It was a lot of fun! The next day, we had our ward Halloween party. The girls got dressed up again, this time for a trunk-or-treat. (We had some cute pictures from this night, but they accidentally got deleted off our camera). Needless to say, by the time Halloween day rolled around, we'd had enough trick-or-treating and plenty of candy, so we all stayed home to hand treats out to the neighborhood kids. Kayley loved  it. When someone would knock, or ring the doorbell, she would yell "The boys and girls are here!" and run to the front door. Even though they weren't in costume, the girls were decked out in Halloween outfits, and Katie got into the "dressing up" spirit with pig-tails...
